Mother’s Day can be a sweet, special day of cele Mother’s Day can be a sweet, special day of celebration for some, but can also be a rough reminder of things we’ve hoped for or lost. A couple years ago, I had just miscarried when Mother’s Day came around, and it was a pretty sad day for me. I hope that those of us who are lucky enough pay tribute to our mothers will do so, but also remember and reach out to those who have lost their mother or may not have a mother’s influence in their life. Those who have just miscarried or lost a child. Those who might be at the beside of their little baby in a hospital. Those who are in the depths of postpartum depression or are enduring a challenging pregnancy. Those who are caring for a sick or injured child or aging mother. Those who might be lonely or in need of a friend. I love this quote from Sheri Dew: “Motherhood is more than bearing children, though it certainly is that. It is the essence of who we are as women. It defines out very identity, our divine stature and nature, and the unique traits the Father gave us.” Happy Mother’s Day to all women, wherever you may be on your mothering journey.💛#mothersday #miscarriageawareness
An elderly man stopped me in the grocery store tod An elderly man stopped me in the grocery store today to say hi to my baby boy (he is quite the social butterfly and stops people everywhere we go). He said, “I’ll tell you one thing. The most fun I had in my entire life was during the years I was raising my children.” Not gonna lie, “fun” is not the first word that comes to mind sometimes when my baby skips naps or eats dirt out of our plants or throws his food all over the floor, but I’ve been thinking a lot about what that kind man said. Of all the experiences he’d had in his lifetime, the years he spent teaching and chasing down his little ones and were the most fun and memorable. I’ve been trying to relax more and enjoy this time with my son while he’s busy learning and discovering and exploring the world. I hope that I’ll be able to look back when I’m old and grey like that man at the store and say, “You know what? That was FUN!”
